What is a JCB 509- 42 Telescopic Telehandler and What Kind of Jobs is it Good For?
Reach, Strength, Maneuverability and Reliability
The JCB 509-42 telehandler is one of the most useful material lifting machines that there is. It is versatile, easy to operate (for those who are qualified) and can boost production in just about any environment you can throw it into.
It has an ample max lift capacity of 9000 lbs. up to 42’, which with its compact wheelbase makes it a superb choice for almost any job site – residential, commercial, industrial or in a yard.
Before going into some of the roles this telehandler excels in, let’s answer an easier question: What can’t it do? One of the few applications you will want a different machine for is high production warehouses. This machine can serve as a fantastic yard dweller in support, but counterbalance forklifts still reign in the warehouse – those bays are designed for those machines.
Heavy Industry and Commercial Construction Ready
From steelyards to formwork to loading materials on the roof, this machine – part forklift and part crane pulls its weight and then some. Can’t get the crane to stand or stab columns? Not an issue – rig it up to the gate and now you’re moving along with or without site support.
Too much form stripping for your crane to take care of before concrete shows up? Sick of a telehandler on it. These machines are amazing as support vehicles for sites that are crane-centric and solve a lot of problems that are sure to arise when sub crews have to share 1 piece of equipment.
When it comes to other heavy trades like masonry, this telehandler is indispensable for offloading mud buckets and pallets of pavers, bricks and cinderblocks. It’s the right balance of strength and agility that makes this machine one of the most useful construction equipment solutions that exists on site.
Residential
These machines are both a back saver and lifesaver when it comes to residential construction jobs. Don’t ground drop your roofing materials – you’re wearing down your people when they are packing pallets of bundles to the roof. A telehandler the size of the JCB 509-42 has the footprint to get in close to the house, and the reach to put supplies on the roof. Go ahead, let that driver ground drop the materials, it’s not a problem.
Framers on a new construction love to use telehandlers, also known as zoom booms to bring lumber up to the deck without crowding the floorplan with whole packs. They also come in handy for safely connecting heavy timbers or steel beams when a crane isn’t an option.
Towing Hitch and Other Accessories
Sometimes these machines support the crane on-site, and other times they bring the crane on site. Among a wide variety of lifting, attachments is a trailer hitch, which can be used to maneuver a self-erect crane into place and then ballast it. Never rent a crane if you don’t need one – the zoom boom will do!
